Do not park here for an event unless you have an extra hour to spare waiting for Smoothie King Center to empty so cars are finally allowed out. Park elsewhere!

Parking in New Orleans

Roughly two categories of people can face parking problems in New Orleans – tourists who are new to the city and residents who have trouble interpreting confusing parking signs. Our New Orleans parking page is meant to answer all your parking questions, whether its about lots, garages or on-street parking.

Parking is anything but cheap in New Orleans. Hourly rates are between $5 and $12, with an average 24 hour rate of $21.00. You can save a bit by parking before 9 am (early bird rate) however you won’t be able to leave earlier than the preset hour (usually about 3 pm). Also, you cannot stay longer than 6 pm. Monthly rates are around $145.00.

On street parking is enforced from Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm. Short term meters allow 2 hours of maximum stay for $1.50 per hour. Long-term meters allow a maximum stay of up to 10 hours for $1.00 each hour. Be careful to check for prohibited parking in designated rush hour zones from 7 am - 9 am and 4 pm - 6 pm.

On-street parking can be paid by coins, credit and debit cards and using the Parkmobile app.

Parking rates and parking availability in New Orleans greatly depend on the neighborhood; you can check out the following maps for reference.
