I would consider alternative accommodations for your vehicle other than Park Avenue Garage. This garage has serious security issues. My car has been broken into three times in one year of parking here. The Parking and Transportation Office and University of Arizona Police Department both do not take responsibility for securing the garages. Though parking is extremely expensive the policy remains “park at your own risk”. If something serious does happen to your vehicle there are no in-garage cameras or police patrols to catch it. This is concerning because the homeless population around the garage likes to take advantage of this weakness in security. If you have the option and are living in the apartments I would consider parking there instead. They have cameras in place and a gate that prevents this situation from occurring. After parking here for 2 years, I personally am glad that I’m graduating because I wouldn’t want to pay this much to take this risk again with my vehicle.

Parking in Tucson

Tucson is the second-largest city in Arizona. It is nicknamed the Optics Valley, due to the fact that over 100 companies in Tucson specialize in designing and manufacturing optoelectronic systems and other products in the field of optics. Here are some tips on finding parking while visiting this city.

On-street meters charge $1 per hour and the maximum stay varies between 30 minutes and 6 hours. Parking is free after 5PM and on weekends. The city has employed a cash-key program for paying for on-street parking, which you can read more about on Tucson’s official website.

Off-street parking rates are around $4 per hour and $11 for 24 hours. The average monthly rate is $130.

In case you’re driving an electric vehicle, the city offers garages with EV charging stations, such as the Pennington Street garage.
